AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 1, 2 AND 7 OF AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED: "AN
ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR AND REGULATING THE LICENSING AND INNOCULATION OF DOGS
IN THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY; PROVIDING FOR THE EMPLOYMENT OF VETERINARIANS
TO ISSUE LICENSES FOR THE KEEPING OF DOGS; PROHIBITING THE OWNERS OR KEEPERS
OF DOGS FROM ALLOWING SUCH DOGS TO BE AT LARGE; IMPOSING PENALTIES UPON OWNERS
AND KEEPERS. OF DOGS FOR THE NON-PAYMENT OF LICENSE TAXES THEREON AND FOR THE
VIOLATION OF THIS ORDINANCE; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT THEREWITH AND
PROVIDING A SEPARABILITY CLAUSE", WHICH WAS ADOPTED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
ON DECEMBER 23, 1947•
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH,
KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1. That Sections 1, 2 and 7 of an ordinance containing the title
quoted above, which was adopted by the Board of Commissioners on December 23,
1947, be and the same are hereby repealed, amended and reordained, so that said
sections as amended and reordained shall read as follows:
"SECTION 1. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, company or corporatior,
to own or keep a dog or dogs in the city of Paducah, Kentucky, without having first
paid a license tax of $2.00 for each so owned and kept shall be due and payable
on the twelfth day of March, 1952, for the period ending December 23, 1952.
On and after the first day of January, 1953, and on the first day of eafh
succeeding year thereafter, any person, firm, company or corporation owning or
keeping a dog or dogs shall obtain a license therefor and pay thereon a license
tax of $2.00 for each dog or dogs so owned or kept in the city.
Any person, firm or corporation acquiring a dog or dogs at any time after
January 1 of any year shall pay a licence tax of $2.00 and obtain a license for
each dog so acquired and kept, and the license or licenses shall be for the period
ending on December 31 of the year in which such dog or dogs were acquired."
"SECTION 2. The City Maaager is hereby authorized to employ a sufficient
number of veterinarians to innoculate dogs and to issue the license therefor,
the veterinarian to receive for his services the sum of $1.75 for each dog
innoculated by him. Each veterinarian so employed shall deposit with the
City Treasurer the sum of twenty-five cents (.25) for each license tag obtain-
ed by him. Upon the payment to him of the license fee of $2.00 by the owner
o f a dog, it shall be the duty of the beterinarian to innoculate such dog and
deliver to the owner the license tag issued by the city together with a cer-
tificate showing that such dog has been immunized against rabies. Any license
tag or tags which are not used may be returned to the City Treasurer who shall
refund to the veterinarian the sum of twenty-five cents (.25¢) for each unused
tag."

"SECTION 7. Any dog found at large, either licensed or unlicensed shall
be subject to be seized and impounded by the City of Paducah and such dog not
claimed and whose release has not been procured within seven days after its
seizure, shall be subject to be disposed of in such manner as may be determined
by the City Manager.
Any licensed dog may be redeemed and released to its owner or keeper
within seven days after being taken up and impounded, and for every licensed
dog redeemed and released to its owner or keeper there shall be paid to the City
of Paducah a redemption fee of One Dollar ($1.00) and in addition, the sum of
twenty-five cents per day to cover the cost of keeping such dog while in the
pound. If any dog so released has not been licensed, the sum of Two Dollars
and Seventy-five cents (2.75) shall be charged and one Dollar and Seventy-five
cents of the fee paid shall be expanded for the purpose of having said dog in-
noculated at the time of its release, plus the sum of twenty-five cents per day
to cover the cost of keeping such dog in the pound."
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after its adoption.
