A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR THE
PURCHASE BY THE CITY OF PADUCAH OF 13,950 BOARD FEET OF SEASONED AND TREATED
LUMBER, THE SAME TO BE USED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS, STREET DIVISION
AND PRESCRIBING THE SPECIFICATIONS TO BE COMPLIED WITH BY BIDDERS
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH,
KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1. That the City Manager be, and he is hereby authorized
to advertise for bids for the sale to the City of Paducah of 13,950 board
feet of seasoned and treated lumber for use by the Department of Public
Works, Street Division. In his request for bids the City Manager shall
require compliance with the following specifications:
QUANTITY•
39 Pieces 3" x 1211 - 201 long (2340 B.F.)
65 Pieces 3" x 1211 - 18t long (3510 B.F.)
8100 Board Feet, planks 3" thich, 611 to 1011 wide by 18, long.
SIZE: Required minimum and maximum measurements.
Joists 3" thick Minimum thickness 2-13/1611
1211 wife 11-13/1611 to and including 1211
Planks 3" t hick 2-13/161, to and including 3"
SPIECES:
All lumber shall be of good sound oak of the Red and White species.
All lumber shall be well manufactured, sawed straight, trimmed square on ends,
have opposite surfaces parallel and have bark entirely removed from wane.
Any joists or planks that are warped, cupped, bowed or crooked to any extent
that will prevent proper fastening of the piece in place or reduce its
strength value will not be accepted.
MOISTURE CONTENT:
All lumber shall be seasoned until the moisture remaining in the wood
will not prevent the injection and proper distribution of the specified
amount of preservative as herein stated.
PRESERVATIVE TREATMENT:
All lumber shall be pressure treated with a creosote oil that meets A.S.T.M.
specifications, Serial Designation D 390-36, and the weight of water free
oil retained in the lumber shall not be less than 8 pounds per cubic foot
of lumber.
The preservative treatment shall be performed in an approved manufactured
method as adopted by the leading preservative plants.
INSPECTION:
All lumber, after creosoting and upon delivery to the city, shall be inspec-
ted and accepted by phe street Superintendent and all pieces rejected by
him will be replaced by acceptable creosoted lumber at no additional cost
to the city.
Each bidder shall state his earliest delivery date and his cash unit price
per board foot for delivery f.o.b. Paducah, Kentucky, for the aforesaid
quantity he proposes to supply.

SECTION 2. The City Manager shall advertise for bids by a notice
posted up at the City Hall door and by inserting notice of the request for
bids in at least one issue of the Sun -Democrat. The notice shall be posted
and published at least seven (7) days prior to the opening of bids and no
bid shall be opened within ten days from the date on which this resolution
is adopted. No bid shall be received after the hour fixed in the notice
for the opening of bids. All bids received by the City Manager up to the
time fixed in the notice shall be filed with the Board of Commissioners who
may let the contract to the lowest responsible bidder. The Board of Com-
missioners shall reserve the right to reject any and all bids and the city
shall not become legally obligated to purchase said lumber until the adoption

of an ordinance authorizing the execution of a contract.

SECTION 3. This resolution shall be in full force and effect from j
and after its adoption.
