EXISTS IN THE CITY OF PADUCAH AND IN THE DEFENSE -RENTAL AREA IN WHICH SAID CITY
IS LOCATED, AND PROVIDING THAT THE PROVISIONS OF THE HOUSING AND RENT ACT OF 1947,
AS AMENDED, SHALL REMAIN AND CONTINUE IN FULL FORCE AND EFFECT UNTIL JUNE 30, 1951.
WHEREAS, it is provided under The Housing and Rent Act of 1947, as amended,
that the provisions of said act shall cease to be in effect at the close of Dec-
ember 31, 1950 unless any incorporated city, town or village which, at the time
when maximum rents under such act are in effect therein, shall be resolution of its
legislative body, declare that a shortage of rental housing accomodations exists
which requires the continuance of rent control in such city, town or village, in
which event said controls shall continue until June 30, 1951; and
WHEREAS, the City of Paducah and the surrounding territory has been declared
a defense -rental area by reason of the construction of the Atomic Energy Plant on
the site of the old Kentucky Ordnance Works; and
WHEREAS, on account of the great increase in the population of the city and
the surrounding area since the announcement of the construction of the aforesaid
plant, it is necessary that the rental of property be regulated under and pursuant
to the aforesaid act;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF
PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1. That the City of Paducah does hereby declare that a shortage of
rental housing accomodations exists which requires the continuance of rent controls
in said city and in the defense -rental area in which said city is located, and that
all of the provisions of The Housing and Rent Act of 1947, as amended, shall remain
and continue in full force and effect until June 30, 1951.
SECTION 2. That the Housing Expeditor of the United States be immediately
notified in writing that the City of Paducah has, by the adoption of this resolutic
elected to continue the aforesaid housing and rent control act in effect until
June 30, 1951, and that a certified copy of this resolution be transmitted to him
with said notice.
SECTION 3. This resolution shall be in full force and effect from and
after its adoption.
