AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 5 OF AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED: "AN
ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE EMPLOYMENT OF ATTORNEYS TO REPRESENT THE CITY OF
PADUCAH, KENTUCKY, IN LEGAL MATTERS; FIXING THE NUMBER TO BE EMPLOYED AND THE
AMOUNT OF THEIR COMPENSATION; PRESCRIBING THE DUTIES OF SUCH ATTORNEYS; AND
REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT THEREWITH, WHICH WAS ADOPTED BY THE BOARD
OF COMMISSIONERS ON APRIL 24, 1951, AND AMENDED ON MAY 12, 1953
WHEREAS, under an amendment of Section 5 ofthe above mentioned
ordinance which was adopted on may 12th,,1953, the Board of Commissioners
authorized the employment of special counsel for the additional period from March
1st, 1953 to October lst, 1953, to'represent the City of Paducah in the proceeding;
to acquire the electric utilities system.of the Kentucky Utilities Company, and it
was believed at that time that the attorney so employed would not be required to
perform any further services in the acquisition proceedings after October 1st,
1953; and
WHEREAS, the actions instituted to acquire said electric utilities
system are now pending in the Count of Appeals and the services of said special
counsel we_ill be required for at least one additional month;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE
CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1. That Section 5 of an ordinance containing the title
quoted above, which ordinance was adopted on April 24, 1951, and amended on
May 12, 1953, be and the same is hereby amended and reordained so that said
section as amended and reordained shall read as follows:
"SECTION 5. That the City Manager be, and he is hereby, authorized
and empowered•to continue the employment of special counsel to represent the
City of Paducah in the litigation and appeals involving the acquisition of the
electric Utilities system of the Kentucky Utilities Company, and said employment
to be effective for the additional period from October 1st to November 1st, 1953,
for which period said attorney shall be paid a salary of $300.00, and the amount
thereof shall be paid in the same manner and at the same time the salaries of
other employges of the City are paid."
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect on
and after October 1, 1953-
