A RESOLUTION URGING SENATORS VIRGIL CHAE'AN ARD GARRETT L. 1.11ITHER6
AND REPRESENTATIVE NOBLE J. GREGORY TO SUPPORT THE SLIM CLEARANCE
AND HOUSING BILL RECENTLY IN^RODUCED IN TIE CONGRESS OF TILE UNITED
STATES
,HEREAS, the industrial and commercial expansion in Paducah has ii -
creased the number of people ;.rorkinE within the city; and
17iiMEAS, a shortage of housing has existed in Faducahfor several
years and is becoming more acute, and it is necessary that any
action possible be taken to provide adeouare housing within the
city; and
WHEREAS, the Clum Clearance and Housing Bill (Senate 138 and H.R.
933), recently introduded in the Congress of the United States,
would aid cities in providing such housing and would provide for
.payments in lieu of taxes;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COIuII�iISSIONERS OF THE
CITZ OF PADUCAH, IiENTUCKY:
SECTION 1. That the Senators from Kentucky, the Honorable Virgil
Chapman and the Honorable Garrett L. Withers, and the Representa.. of
the First District, the Honorable Roble J. Gregory, be urged to supp-
ort said Slum Clearance and 'lousing 31_11, with tl-e exception that tIe
provision should be deleted in Soction 505 of said Bill whieh would
make the bonds of Municipal Housing authorities subject to Federal
taxation.
SECTION 2. That said Senators and Representatives be urged to
support particularly a provision in Section 205 of said Bill which
would add Section 10 (h) to the United States Hoasing Act of 1937
and require payments in lieu of taxes equal to 100 of annual shelto
rents, payable to the States, cities, counties and other political
subdivisions.
SECTION 3. That a copy of this resolution be sent to the Honorable
Virgil Chapman, the Honorable Garrett L. Withers, and the Honorable)
Noble J. Gregory.
