A SEPARABILITY CLAUSE AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT
THERE17ITH; AND FIXING THE PENALTY FOR VIOLATION THEREOF", WHICH
WAS ADOPTED BY THE BOARD OF C01.1MISSIONERS ON SEPTEMBER 24, 1946
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE
CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1.
That Section 1 of an ordinance entitled: "AN ORDINANCE
ADOPTING THE BUILDING CODE RECOMMENDED BY THE NATIONAL BOARD
OF FIRE UNDERWRITERS, EXCEPT CERTAIN CLAUSES AND SECTIONS THEREOF
WHICH ARE HEREBY EXPRESSLY ELIMINATED, AND ALSO ADOPTING THE
STANDARDS OF SAFETY APPROVED BY THE DIVISION OF INSURANCE FIRE
PREVENTION AND RATES SECTION OF THE STATE OF KENTUCKY; PROVIDING
FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF A BUILDING INSPECTOR TO ADMINISTER AND ENF
THE PROVISIONS OF THE BUILDING CODE AND THE STANDARDS OF SAFETY;
FIXING THE FEES TO BE CHARGED BY THE CITY OF PADUCAH FOR BUILDING
AND WRECKING PERMITS; FIXING AND PRESCRIBING THE QUALIFICATIONS OF
THE BUILDING INSPECTOR, HIS COMPENSATION, POWERS AMID DUTIES; PROVID
A SEPARABILITY CLAUSE AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT
THEREWITH; AND FIXING THE PENALTY FOR VIOLATION THEREOF", which
was adopted by the Board of Commissioners on September 24th. 1946,
be and the same is hereby amended so that said section as amended
(shall read as follows:
"Section 1. That the Building Code recommended by the
,National Board of Fire Underwriters, the 1943 Edition thereof, or
las said Building Code may be hereafter amended or revised, adopted
and published, subject to the exceptions hereinafter noted, is herel
adopted, and the provisions thereof are hereby carried into force
and effect as fully and to the same extent as if cited and copied
din detail in this ordinance, and a copy of said Building Code is
;hereby filed with and as a part hereof, and is to be treated as a
part of this ordinance to the same extent as if fully copied herein

Provided, however, that Section 101 of said Building Code shall
be void except as to sub -sections 6,.8 and 9 thereof, and provided
further that the bond required in sub -section 3 of section 103
shall be filed with the City Clerk. Provided further that sub-
section 4 of section 404 of said Building Code shall be amended
to read as follows;
114 Area m1dification.
(a) Except as otherwise provided the limiting areas
fixed in this section may be increased by one hundred per cent whet
the building is sprinklered, and by two hundred per cent when the
building is sprinklered and does not exceed one story nor an avers;
of twenty-five feet in height to the roof, or to a fire retardant
ceiling through which there shall be no openings unless they
open into shafts or ducts to the roof, the enclosing walls of
which have the same construction as the ceiling.

(b) The areas specified in this section will be changed
by section 1792 for certain occupancies.
(c) Outside the congested areas of the city, when
a hazardous condition is not created thereby, the area of a public
building, a business building or a storage building, not over two
stories high, may be increased in excess of the areas fixed by thi:
section, in the discretion of the Mayor and the Board of
Commiss ioners.
SECTION 2.
This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from
and after its adoption.
