V REPEALED AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO DECREASE THE NUMBER OF MEN NO'A' EMPLOYED IN THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS BY RETIRING FROM ACTIVE DUTY EIGHT (8) POLICEMEN AND EIGHT (6) FIRE- MEN AS OF MAY 18, 1939. THAT i'J[i REAS, due to the exceedingly low valuations of property subject to taxation, the anticipated revenues of the City of Paducah have sustained a substantial decrease for the year 1939; and 11JHEREAS, under an ordinance fixinP the apportionment of public funds for the year 1939, and appropriating the public rev- enue of the City to such purposes, which ordinance was duly adopted by the Board of Commissioners on the 8th day of May, 1939, the amounts appropriated for operation of the police and fire depart- ments are insufficient for payment of salaries to all men now employed, and it has been necessary to curtail expenses in each of said departments; NO71, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COM - OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY: SECTION 1. That the City L?anaCer be, and he is hereby empowered and directed to decrease the number of men now employed in the police department by ei,7ht (8) and the number of men now employed in the fire department by eight (8) as of May 18, 1939, and in carrying this ordinance into effect, he shall retire from active duty the youngest men in point of service.
