A RESOLUTION REQUESTING SENATOR ALBEN W. BARKLEY AND
CONGRESSPiAN NOBLE GREGORY TO CONFER WITH THE OFFICIALS
IN CHARGE OF THE UNITED STATES ENGINEER CORPS AND URGE
THEM TO RETAIN THE UNITED STATES ENGINEERING FLEET NOW
LOCATED IN PAD'UCAH, KENTUCKY
WHEREAS, the facilities of the United States Engineering
Fleet are available for the protection of the lives and property
of the citizens in this area against the ravages of periodical
floods which occur by reason of the rising of the Ohio River and
its.tributaries; and,
WHEREAS, the removal of the fleet from the City would not
only endanger the lives of citizens and cause great damage to
property on account of floods, but would throw a great many of
our citizens out of work; and,
WHEREAS, the removal of said fleet would result in irrepar-
able injury and damage to the City of Paducah, and it is believed
advisable to call upon Senator Alban W. Barkley and Congressman
Noble Gregory to use their influence in order that said fleet may
be retained.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COA&,ISSIONERS
OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1.
That Senator Alben '11. Barkley and Congressman Noble Gregory
be requested to confer with those officials in Washington who are
in charge of the United States Engineer Corps and urge them to
retain the United States Engineering Fleet now located in this
City.
SECTION 2.
That a•certi ied copy of this resolution be mailed to
Senator Barkley and to Congressman Gre`ory
