AN ORDINANCE DECLARING THE DESIRABILITY AND NECESSITY OF
REDUCING THE BOUNDARIES OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY, BY
STRIKING OFF ALL OF THAT AREA COMPRISING THE OHIO AND TENNESSEE
RIVERS AS DEFINED HEREIN, AND DEFINING ACCURATELY THE BODUDARIES
OF SUCH TERRITORY PROPOSED TO BE STRICKEP] OFF
WHEREAS, under ordinances adopted by the General Council of
City of Paducah in the years 1871 and 1894, the easterly and westerly
city limits lines were extended across the Ohio and Tennessee Rivers
to the low water mark on the north bank of said rivers, so that
there was included in the corporate limits of the City of Paducah
all of that area comprising the Ohio and Tennessee Rivers adjacent
to the lands of said city, as will be shown by a plat of the City
of Paducah prepared by T. A. Bradley and L. W. Bradley on October
12th, 1943, and on file in the office of the City Engineer; and,
'!WHEREAS, the City of Paducah being unable to provide fire
and police protection, or any other municipal service for the
benefit of the owners and operators of boats, barges and other
vessels which ply the Ohio and Tennessee Rivers within the corporat
limits as established by the aforesaid ordinances and plat, and
it is deemed advisable and for the best interests of the City of Pa
that the boundaries be reduced by striking off all of the aforesaid
area comprising the Ohio and Tennessee Rivers;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
SEC TION 1.
As used in this ordinance, the words "pool-stage"or "pool -line"
hall mean that elevation on the south banks of the Ohio and
nessee Rivers which is 302 feet above sea bevel.
SECTION 2.
That the following described territory embraced within the
resent corporate limits of the City of Paducah be excluded therefrom,
nd that the line of the city limits on the south bank of the Ohio
nd Tennessee Rivers be re -located by striking off all of that area
omprising the Ohio and Tennessee Rivers which is described as follows:
Beginning at a point where the present West city
Limits line intersects the low water mark on the
North bank of the Ohio River, which line was es-
tablished by an annexation ordinance passed by the
General Council of the City of Paducah in the year
1894, thence with the low water mark along the North
Bank of the Ohio River and in a Southerly dir-
ection to a point where the low water mark on the
North bank of the Ohio River intersects the present
east city limits line as established by the afore-
said ordinance adopted in 1894; thence in a south-
westerly direction and with the present city limits
line to the pool -stage or pool -line on the South
bank of the Tennessee River; thence with the pool-

line on the Oouth tank of the Tennessee River and
in a Northwesterly direction to a point where the
pool -line on the South bank of the Tennessee River
intersects the pool -line on the South bank of the
Ohio River; thence with the pool -stage or pool -line
on the South bank of the Ohio River, continuing in
a northwesterly direction, to its intersection with
the west city limits line as established by the
aforesaid ordinance adopted in 1894; thence in a
northerly direction and with the present west city
limits line to the point of beginning on the North
bank of the Ohio River."
SECTION 3.
This ordinance shall be published in at least ten issues
of the Jun -Democrat, the official newspaper of the City of Paducah
and the reduction of the city limits as herein proposed shall not
become effective until the adoption of an ordinance reducing the
same as above provided, and such ordinance shall not be adopted
until the expiration of 30 days after the enactment of this
ordinance and the publication thereof as herein provided.
SECTION 4.
This ordinance declaring the desirability and necessity
of reducing the corporate limits of the City of Paducah as above
proposed shall be in full force and effect from and after its
adoption.
