OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY, PRESCRIBING THE ZUALIF'ICATIONS
OF APPLICANTS FOR ORIGINAL APPOINTMENTS AS MEMBERS OF THE r'IRE
DEPARTi:iENT; PRESCRIbLUG THE RILES AND REGUI.ITIONS FOR THE FILLING
OF VACANCIES; AND REPEALING ALL O DITTANCES 1H CONFLICT THEREWITH
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE ;OARD OF OF THE CITY
OF PADUCAH, IMITUCICY:
SECTION 1.
The number and rank of members of the -vire nepartment
of the City of Paducah, Kentucky, and their salaries, provided saic
salaries are not changed by any annual a_portionment ordinance
ihereafter adopted, shall be as follows:

SEC TI OIT 2.
Qualifications for all men for employnent in the fire
department shall be as follows: The applicant must be twenty-one
(21) years of age and not over thirty-five (35) years of age.
lie must possess the qualifications required under the statutes,
be able to exhibit a certificate or sworn statement of a teacher
of the public schools that he has completed high school. He
must also be a qualified voter of the City of Paducah, be able
to pass an "Al" physical examination, and furnish re,erences
from five (5) reputable citizens.
SEC TION 3.
The Chief of the `ire Department shall be the director
of the department and all employees shall be subject to his super-
vision and control, but during his absence from the city or his
inability to perform the duties of his office, the Assistant Chief
of the -ire Department: shall have supervision and control of said
department.
SECTION 4.
Each and all captains employed by the City Manager
shall have and retain the same rank and each shall be responsible
to the Chief of the -v'ire Department for the proper conduct and
performance of the duties of the firemen at the station to which
he is assigned. The switchboard operators and the T=echanic, whose

rank shall be the same as that of a Grade "A" Fireman, shall be
responsible directly to the Ghief of the -ire Department for their
conduct and the proper performance of their duties.
SECTION 5.
( In the event of a vacancy in the r'ire Department of the
City of Paducah, with the exception of that of the Lechanic which
shall be filled by the City--anager, such vacancy shall be tilled
/�"�D✓ by the oldest member of the department in point of service regardl ss
of position or rank, and if the member who is entitled to advance
to such position should decline to do so, said position shall be
filled by the ncdt oldest member in point of service. If a member
who is entitled to fill a vacancy should decline to do so, he shall
not thereafter have the ri,-ht to oust that employee who accepted t e
vacant position.
SEC TION 6.
All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewi h
are, to the extent of such conflict hereby repealed.
SECT10111 7.
This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from
and after its adoption.
