BE IT ORDAINED SY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERL, < :i CITY
OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1.
That Section 2 of an ordinance entitled:
".AN ORDINANCE PRESCRIBING TULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THE POLICE
DEPART:::ENT OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES

vers
on September 29th, 1936 and amended on January 15th, 1946, be and
he
same is hereby amended so that said section as amended shall read
as follows:
"Section 2. `!Pile position of the members of the Police
department and their salaries, provided said salaries are not
chanSed by any annual apportionment ordinance hereafter adopted,
shall be as follows:

The Chief of Police shall be the director of the Police Depart-
ment and all employees shall be subject to his supervision and control
except, during- his absence from the city or his inability to perform
such duties, the -'.ssistant Chief of Police shall have the supervision
and control of said department.
Each and all Captains employed by the City kanager shall ha

and retain the same rank, each and all Lieutenants shall have and
retain the game rank and likewise each and all sergeants shall hav-
enc? retain the same rank. There shall be assi ped to each platoon
a captain tvrho shall be responsible to the Chief of Police for the
nroper conduct and performance of duties of the Lieutenant, Dask
Sertieant and patrolmen of the platoon to which he is assi_-ned. Th
Lieutenant of each platoon shall be responsible to the Captain and
the Degk 3(,,rgeant shall be responsible to the Lieutenant of the
platoon in which he serves.
The Captain of the Bureau of Identification shall have and
vetain the same rank as all other captains of the police force,
and he shall have the responsibility of maintaining the identifical
records of the city. The City !anager is authorized to employ at a
salary of •;;110.00 a clerk to assist in the keeping of the identifi-
cation records, but such clerk shall not be a member of the police
department or acquire any rank, position or right of seniority unde
the rules of civil service governing the police and fire department
of the city.
The Captain of Detectives shall also have and retain the same
rant as all other captains of the police force and shall be
responsible to the Chief of Police for the proper conduct and the
performance of the duties of the lieutenant and the two sergeants
working under him. The Lieutenant shall likewise be responsible
to the Captain for the proper performance of the duties of the
tiro sergeants working under him.
The Captain who serves as -lectrical Inspector of the City of
Paducah shall have and retain the same rank ss all other captains c
the police department, and shall be responsible to the Ghief of
Police for the proper and faithful performance of his duties.
The Sergeant who acts as Jailer for the City of.Paducah shall
have and retain the same rank as all other sergeants of the police
force, and he shall be responsible to the Lieutenant or other
superior officer having charge of prisoners..
Qualifications for all mentfor the Police Department
shall be as follows: The a-plicant must be twenty-two (22) years
of age and not over forty (40) years of age. Iie must be able to
exhibit a certificate or a sworn statement of a teacher of the
public schools that he has completed high school. He must be
a qualified voter of the city and able to pass an "A 1" physical
examination and furnish references from .five (5) reputable citizens
In addition to the causes for dismissal, suspension and
d=motion provided by law, all members of said Police Department
shall be subject to demotion, suspension and dismissal for the
causes set out in the aforesaid original ordinance adopted on
September 29th, 1936.
Under the provisions of this ordinance the City T,;anager
is authorized to increase the personnel of the police department
by employing a force of forty police officers, and the salaries
required to be paid to the additional employees until the apportio
ment ordinance is adopted for 1946 shall be charged to the appro-
pritation to the police department in said year.

In the event of a vacancy in the police department of the
City of Faducah, with the exception of that of Patrolmen, Y+eights &
Measures, which shall be appointed by the City Tanager, such vacant
shall be filled by the oldest member of the department in point of
service regardless of position or rank, and if the officer who is
entitled to advance to such position should decline to do so, said
position shall be filled by the next member oldest in point of sery ce.
if an officer who is entitled t-) fill a vacancy should decline to d so,
he shall not thereafter have the right to oust that employee who
accepted such vacant position.
The oldest members in point of service shall have the choic
of the shift on which he will be employed.
SEC TION 2.
All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith
are, to the extent of such conflict, hereby repealed.
SECTION 3.
This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from
and after its adoj)tion.
