AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 100 OF All ORDINANCE
ENTITLED: "AIV ORDINANCE FIXING AND REGULATING TIIE LICENSE TAXIS,
AND MANNER AND FORM OF GRANTING AND ISSUING SAI.93 ON THE VARIOUS
LINES OF BUSINESS, OCCUPATIONS, PROFESSIONS, TRADES AND CALLINGS
IN THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY, AND PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR NON-
PAYMENT THEREOF, AIVD FOR VIOLATION THEREOF, AND MAKING IT UNLAWFUD
TO ENGAGE IN ANY SUCH LINES OF BUSINESS, OCCUPATIONS, PROFESSIONS,
TRADES AND CALLINGS WITHOUT FIRST PAYING THE LICENSE TAX AND
PROCURING LICENSES AS PROVIDED HEREIN", WHICH ORDINANCE WAS ADOPTED
BY THE BOARD OF COU1,11ISSIONERS 0 THE CITY OF PADUCAH ON DECEMBER
30th, 1940, AND SECTION 100 THEREOF AS AMENDED BY ORDINANCE ADOPTED
BY SAID BOARD ON JANUARY 4th, 1944.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF CO?.1MISSIONERS OF THE CI`T`Y
OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1.
That Section 100 of an ordinance entitled: "API
ORDINANCE FIXIITG AND REG"ILATING TIDE LICENSE TAMES, AND MANNER
AND FORM OF GRANTING A17 ISSUING SAT.1E ON THE VARIOUS LINES OF
BUSINESS, OCCUPATIONS, PROFESSIONS, TRADES AND CALLINGS IN THE
CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY, AND PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR NODI-PAYI4ENT
THEREOF, AND FOR VIOLATION THEREOF, AND MAKING TP UNLAWFUL TO
ENGAGE IN ANY SUCH LINES OF BUSINESS, OCCUPATIONS, PROFESSIONS,
TRADES AND CALLINGS WITHOUT FIRST PAYING THE LICENSE TAX AND PRO-
CURING LICENSES AS PROVIDED PIEREIN", which ordinance was adopted
by the Board of Commissioners of the City of Paducah on December
30th, 1940, and Section 100 thereof as amended by ordinance
adopted by said Board on January 4th, 1944, be and the same
is hereby amended so that said section as amended shall read
as follows:
SECTION 100 INSURANCE COMPANIES
Life, Ordinary Business
Each life insurance company doing business in the City of
Paducah and writing what is known as "Ordinary Life Insurance" as
distinguished from what is known as "Industrial Life Insurance",
whether or not such company is engaged in writing other lines of
insurance for which a separate license or licenses are required to
be paid under the other paragraphs of this section, shall pay a
license tax of ;50.00.
Life, Industrial Business
Each life insurance company doing business in the City of
Paducah and writing what is known as "Industrial Life Insurance,"
as distinguished from "Ordinary Life Insurance", whether or not
,such company is engaged in writing ordinany life insurance or any

other line of insurance for which a separate license or licenses
are required to be paid under other paragraphs of this section,
shall pay a license tax of 175.00 where Five (5) agents,
solicitors, and collectors, or a lesser number than Five (5)
are employed during the fircal year for which license taxes
imposed hereunder are due, and for each additional agent, solicito
or collector employed at any time during Chid year the company
shall pay a license tax of };15.00,1
Health and Accident Business
Each company doing business in the City of Paducah and wri ing
health and accident policies, whether or not such company is engaged
in writing other lines of insurance for which a separate license
or licenses are required to be paid under other paragraphs of this
section, shall pay a license tax of „25.00/
Fire Insurance
Each fire insurance company shall pay a license tax in an amount
equal to two (2%) percent of all premiums received by said company
within the preceding calendar year for insurance on property located
within the corporate limits,.but in computing the amount of such t x
the percentage on any premiums which have been returned to policy-
holders shall not be included. Any fire insurance company entering
the city during the license year shall at the end thereof promptly
pay to the city the full amount of the tax on the basis hereinabove
provided.
Other Insurance Business
Each casualty, mutual insurance company, Lloyd's organization
or reciprocal or inter -insurance exchange, together w, th any finance
company placing and/or collecting insurance premiums on accounts
;handled by such company, and also each company writing policies
covering automobile liability, public liability, general liability,
manufactdrer's public liability, elevator liability, contractor's
liability, household liability, residence theft, pay -master robbery,
general burglary, bank burglary and robbery, forgery mercantile
safe burglary, marine plate glass, messenger or interior robbery,
automobile collision, automobile fire and theft, all forms of sureuy
bonds, and, with the exception of liability of employers for personal
injury to their employees, or death caused thereby, under the
provisions of the Workmen's Compensation Act, all other forms of

liability, casualty and hazard insurance upon parsons and property
not specifically enumerated herein, shall pay a license tax in an
amount equal to two (2w) percent of all premiums received by said
company within the preceding calendar year on risks located within!

Ithe corporate limits of the city on those classes of business whit
said company is authorized to transact, but in computing the amoun
Of such tax the percentage on any premiums which have been returne
to the policyholder shall not be included. Any such company enter.

provided.
The city shall collect a fee of $?5.00 from any company whose
fee or tax on the percentage of premiums basis is less than :p5.00.
The license taxes imposed under the provisions of this recti
shall be due and payable on January 19t of each year hereafter,
beginning on January 1st, 1945, and upon the payment by the compan
of the tax provided herein the City Treasurer shall issue to such
company a license to engage in such business from January Ist to
December 31st. Provided, however, the City Treasurer shall not
issue a license to any company whose tax is based upon a percentage
of premiums until such company has filed with her a sworn statement
showing the total amount received in premiums during the Such preceding)
calendar year. Susworn statement may be made by the agent or by
any other duly authorized official of the company.
SECTION 2.
All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict 4erewith
are, to the extent of such conflict hereby repealed.
SECTION a.
This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from
and after its adoption.
