HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinances Book 9, Page 609, No Ordinance Number-I - Page 609 , AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND REORDAiNING AS AMENDED SECTION 5 OF AN ORDINANCE: ENTITLED, "AN ORDINANCE REGULATING TRAVEL AND TRIFFIC--TRT USE j OF STREETS BY VEHICLES,'STREET CARS ARD PEDESTRIANS; CREATING A GFNRRAL i TRAFFIC AND BU:'INESS DISTRICT; ESTABLISHING BOULEVARDS, SAFETY ZONES, AND AUTfORIZING THE MARKING OF CROSS!,VALKS OR ANY ZONES HEREIN PROVIDED FOR, AND THE ERECTION OF SIGNS AND SIGNALS; REGULATING PARKING, AND i DESCRIBING THE STREETS OR PORTIONS OFSTREETS TPAT MAY BE USED FOR PARKING, AND THP MANNER OF UTILIZING SAME; IN THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUFKY; AND FIXING A PENALTY FOR ANY VIOLATION HEREOr,° S"dHICH WAS ADOPTED BY THE GENERAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH AND APPROVED BY THE MAYOR AND PUBLISHED SEPTEMBER 17, 1925; BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY: SECTION 1. That Section 5 of an ordinance entitled, "AN ORDINANCE REGULATING TRAVEL AND TRIFFIC--THE USE OF STREETS BY VEHICLES, STREET CARS AND PEDFSTRIANS; CREATING A GENERAL TRAFFIC AND BUSINESS DISTFICT; ESTABLISHING BOULEVARDS, SAFETY ZONES, AND AUTHORIZING THE MARLING OF CROSSWALKS OR ANY ZONES HEREIN PROVIDED FOR, AND THE ERECTION OF SIGNS I AND SIGNALS; REGULATING PARKING, AND DESCRIBING THE STREETS OR PORTIONS OF STREETS THAT MAY BE USED FOR PARKING, AND THE MANNER OF UTIIIZING SAME, IN THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY; AND FIXING A PENALTY FOR ANY VIOLATION HEREOF," which was adopted by the General Council of the City of Paducah and approved by the Mayor and published on the 17th day of September, 1925, be, and the same is hereby amended and adopted as so amended so that the same shall read as follows, to -wit: Section 5. TRAFFIC SIGNAL LEGEND. The following signals for the direction of traffic are hereby authorized: RED, when shown in any mechanical traffic signal, except in flashing signals, requires that traffic shall stop and remain standing; provided, however, traffic may enter the intersection for the purpose of making right turns when in so doing the line of traffic operating with the green light will not be interfered with or obstructed; but in so doing the traffic operating on the green light shall have the right- of-way, and the traffic entering against the red light for the purpose of making such right turn shall do so at its ovm risk and shall not be relieved of any liability for negligence or damages by reason hereof. GREEN, when shown in any mechanical traffic signal, requires that traffic shall move and remain in motion, except when stopped for the purpose of avoiding an accident or in case of other emergency, or when. stopped at the command of a Police Officer. YELLOW OR BELLS: Yellow signal, or the ringing of bells in connection with any mechanical traffic signal shall indicate preparation Page 610 for a change in the direction of traffic movement. lYhen such signal is flashed, or the ringing of a bell is sounded, no traffic shall enter an intersection until a green or "GO" signal is shown. SECTION 2.
