A RESOLUTION DECLARING THE APPROVAL OF THE CITY OF
p;PACUCAH OF THE PROPOSAL TO CONSTRUCT A SEA WALL FOR THC PROTECTION i
!OF SAID CITY.
WHEREAS, on account of the great disaster which befell)
the City of Paducah in the winter of 1937 by reason of the flood

e:hch was occasioned by the overflow of the Ohio River and its
tributaries into and over said city resulting in th loss of
property and the hazaarding and endangering of many businesses
and throwing thousands of citizens out of employment, and causing
r.:oreā¢than ninety percent of the people of said city to evacuate
their homes, places of business and employment, and
WHEREAS, the most effective means of protecting the
people and their business and preserving said city is the con-
struction of a sea mall along the river front adjacent to and aboirel
and below said city, and
WHEREAS, the United States Government has, through its
several agencies, with this branch of servide, indicated a desire
and willingness to be of assistance to bringing about the con-
struction of said sea wall, and
WHEREAS, the first step in that direction will consist)
of an appropriate survey for the purpose of locating and establish-;
irg the most feasible and desirable place or places where said sea
wall may be constructed, and which survey can more effectively be
made by the Conps of United States Engineers, and to be approved by
the Government through such survey, and
PaLREAS, the Federal Government has proposed to
construct or build such sea wall when and as the right-of-way for
same is secured, NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF I
THL CITY OF PALUCAH, KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1.
That the City of Paducah accepts the offer of the
Federal Government to construct and aid in the construction of a
sea wal.i for the protection of the City of Paducah, and that it
her by applies to said Federal Government to cause to be made a
survey for the ,;ur,iozc of locating the required right-of-vray i'or
thj:, constrn^':lon of such sea wall.
