I
SECTION I.
That on and after the first day of January 1925, and on ;the
same day in each succeeding year hereafter, it -shall be unlawful
for any person, firm, company or corporation to engagg in any bus-
iness, occupation, profession, trade or calling hereinafter men-
tioned, in the City of Paducah, Kentucky, until such person, firm
company or corporation have first paid the amount of license tax to
the City Treasurer and have obtained from her license as hereinafter
specified and required; if any such license tax be not so paid and
the license procured on or before the first day of February in each
year hereafter, there shall be added to such license tax a penalty
of Ten (10) per centum thereof, and any and .11 such persons, firms,
companies or corporations paying, or offering to pay such license taxes
after same have become delinquent shall also pay said Ten (10) per
cent penalty thereon; provided, that such penalty shall not be added
to any such license tax where the person, firm, company or corporation
so liable for same, shall not be engaged in business, occunation, pro-
fession, trade or calling in said City until after the first dal of Feb-
ruary in the ,year in %,hick said license tax shall be due and payable.
Said license taxes and penalties may be recovered as other delinquent
taxes.
:_11 such licenses shall have printed or stamped on the face
of same, in large figures, the year for which same are issued, and
it shall be the duty of the person procuring or having such license
to keep same posted or otherwise exposed in some conspicuous place
in his or their place of business, where the same shall at all times,
be within the public view.
lio person, firm, company or corporation to.whom any license is
issued as herein provided for, shall be authorized to do any business
thereunder, other than that specified in such license.
SECTION 2.
Each license shall state the name of the person, firm, company
or corporation to whom it is issued and no such license shall be as-
signable 0,8 transferable, nor shall any such license authorize any
person, firm, company or corporation, other than the one mentioned in
the license, to do any bsuiness, or to follow any occupation, professic
trade or calling other than that provided in such license.
SECTION 3.
All licenses granted under this ordinance, except as other-
wise herein provided. shall expire on the 31st day of December of
each and every year, and no license, except as otherwise herein
provided shall be issued for a less period of time than one month
nor for a fractional part of a month, nor for a less fee than One
(1) Dollar. fro portion of any license tax shall be refunded to any
person, firm, company or corporation, or to anyone else for their
use or benefit.
SECTION 4.
«n advertisement of any kind by any person, firm, company or
corporation, that he, they or it, is engaged in any calling, occupation
trade, business or profession, for the carrying on of which a license is
re-uired under this ordinance, shall be conclusive evidence of the
liability of such person, firm, company or corporation for such license
tax as provided in this ordinance.
SECTION 5.
Every person, fir,,,,,,
irm, company or corporation desiring to procure
a license, as herein provided, shall when required, make application in
writing to the City Treasurer, giving and disclosing the information nec-
essary to enable the City Treasurer to determine the amount of license
tax to be paid, the character of business to be conducted, and such other

facts as may be necessary or proper to determine whether the applical
for such license shall be granted the license applied for, and in
order to ascertain any facts necessary to determine the amount of

SECTION 6.
Upon violation of any provision of this Ordinance by any person,
firm, company or corporation holding a _license to engage in any
business, occupation, profession, trade or calling, as herein pro-
vided, such license may be revoked by the General Council
SECTION 7.
Lach person, firm, company or corporation, carrying on or conduct•
ing any business, trade, occupation, employment or profession, for
which a license is required under the provisions of this Ordinance,
or any other ordinance not repealed by this Ordinance, where a fine
has not been provided for, without first having obtained a license
to carry on and conduct -such business, trade, occupait7on, employment
or profession, shall be guilty of a middemeanor; and upon conviction
of the Police Court of the City of Paducah, shall be fined not less
than Five ($5.00) Dollars nor more than Twenty 020.00) Dollars, and
each day that such business, trade, occupation, employment or profea-
sion is carried on without such license shall be considered a separai
offense.
SECTION 8.
Every person, firm, company or corporation, before engaging in
any business, occupation, ps+fession, trade or calling, hereinafter
mentioned and described, shall pay the license tax hereinafter pro-
vided, and set opposite the name of the business, occupation, pre-
fession, trade or calling. The business, occupations, professions,
trades and callings for which license taxes are required, together
with the amount of such license tax, except as otherwise specificall-
set out, are as follows:

additional tax of 1/2 of to on the amount over

Insurance, Fire Insurance Company.
Every Fire insurance company doing business in this City
and all other lines of insurance written by such
companies except life, health and accident, shall on the
31st day* of December in each year, or within thirty
days thereafter, return to the City Treasurer for de-
posit, a statement, under oath, of all premiums re-
ceived in this city during the year ending on the 31st day
of December and shall, at the same time, pay into the
City Treasury a tax of Two Dollars upon each One hundred
Dollars of said premiums to ascertained, less return pre-
miums allowed on cancelled policies, and any fire company
doing also a Tornado, Wind or Cyclone business, shall
include in the statement above referred to, the premiums
received for such business, and the same shall be in-
cluded in the total business and the tax paid on same, as
above set out; provided, however, that the minimum tax
under this Section shall be Fifteen Dollars. Any com-
pany failing or refusing for thirty days, to return the
statement reo_uired under the oath of some principal of-
ficer or local agent, and to pay the tax herein required,
shall forfeit Fifty Dollars for each offense. And the
General Council may revoke the license of such Company
without notice.
Insurance, Mutual or Reciprocal Fire, Insurance Companies.
Every Reciprocal, ISutlal and every other similar kind
of insurance company, corporation, firm or association,
exchange or concern writing any insurance in the City
of Paducah, Kentucky, and which has received premiwns
on risks written in said City, shall file a sworn state-
ment, either by the iaanage r or the President or Sec-
retary of such insurance company, corporation, firm,
association, exchange or concern or by the local resident
agent thereof, showing the various lines written and
declaring the net premiums, received. Such sworn
statement shall be made within thirty days after the
31st day of December in each year, to the City Treasurer i
of the City of Paducah, Kentucky, and shall at the'same
time pay into the City Treasury a tax of yx2.00 upon each
5200.00 of said premiums so ascertaineotless returned pre-
miums allowed on cancelled policies. The term premium as i
used herein shall include all payments in Miatever form col-
lected or paid, made or received for any character of in-
surance or similar protection named in this Ordinance. The
minimum tax under this Ordinance shall be X25.00. any
h.eciprocal, ;dutual Company, Corporation, Firm, :association,
3xhhange or Concern failing or refusing for thirty* days
to return the statement required to be filed as set out herein and failing
to pay the tax hall forfeit ,50.00 for each and every offense and the
required herein/i/ General Council may revoke the license of such company,
corporation, firm, association, exchange or concern, with-
out notice.

It shall be the duty of each Reciprocal, Nutual or In
lemnity Company. firm or corporation, which has re-
cei.ved prem:inma on risks in the City* of Paducah,Ken-

Each person, firm or corporation engaged in 4hy-
occupation, profession or trade of whatever name
or character, and not herein before enumerated,
shall pay an annual license of 25.00
SECTION 9.
It shall be the duty of each tberson, firm, company or copora-
tion, oertiing any dog or dogs, after paying the license tax herein
required, to apply to the City Treasurer for a numbered Dog Tax,
i-inich tag shall be placed upon a collar or otherwise securely
fastened about the neck of such dog or dogs.
SECTION I0.
No license herein provided for shall authorize or entitle
any holder hereof to conduct any business, or to engage in any
occupation, profession, trade or calling, in any manner or at any
time, in violation of any ordinance of the City of Paducah, or of
any law of the State of Kentucky, or of the United States,
SECTION II.
If any person, firm, company or corporation shall misrepresent
any material fact as to the nature of business in his application i
for such license, or any other fact necessary or proper to deter-
mine the amount of the license tax to be charged or paid, such 1 -1 -
cense so procured by reason of such misrepresentation may be re-
voked by the General Council at any time.
SECTION I2.
All moneys derived from license taxes under the provisions of
this Ordinance shall be paid to the City Treasurer, and by her
placed to the credit of the General Revenue Frund of the City of
Paducah, and shall be used and expended in defraying the current
and incidental expenses of said City.
SECTION I3.
Should any section, or part of section, or any provision of
this Ordinance be declared by the Courts, for any reason, to be
invalid; such decision shall not affect the validity of this
Ordinance as a whole, or any part thereof, other than the partic-
ular section or provision of the Ordinance so held or declared
to be invalid.
SECTION Ia.
All Ordinances and parts of ordinances which have been hereto-
fore -adopted in conflict herewith, are, to the extent of such con-
flict hereby repealed, but this Ordinance shall not be construed
as repeating any provision or provisions for licenses or license
fees or license taxes contained in any other existing ordinance or
ordinances of the City of Paducah, or providing for any license
or the payment of any license fee on any business, trade, profession,
or occupation not herein specifically provided for.
SECTION 15.
This Ordinance shall be in force and effect from and includin."
