AN ORDINANCE• FIXING THE RATE OF FARES TO BE CHARGED BY ELECTRIC
STREET RAIL'VIAYS A,D OTHER PERSONS 'VIITHIII `S'H'E CITY OF PADUCAH, AND PRO- 1
VIDING PENALTIES FOR VIOL`ITION THEREOF.
WHEREAS, The Paducah Railway Company has presented to the Board 011
Commissioners of the City a statement of conditions, from which it cl�.ims
the right to increase the fares charged for carrying passengers upon itsl
street cars; and,
V1HERE:1S, it is claimed by the Paducah Raily. y Company that it
will, commencing with and including October 1, 1920, put into effect a.
much higher rate of fares for passengers on its street cars within the
City of Paducah; and, j
.R RE_AS, it is claimed by the Paducah Railway Company that the
fares provided for by Section 15 of its Franchise o3 Sig_ (6) Gents for

adults, and of Half Fares for children under twelve and over five ,years
of age, and nothing for children under five years of age when aceompa.nie'A
by a guardian, is not binding upon it: by reason of the fact that said
rate of fares, as fixed in said Franchise, shall, continue for one year
from the commencement of operation under said Franchise, which -period
of time will expire with and including September 30th, 1920; and,
WHEREAS, the placing of this extra charge ^.rid burden upon the
traveling public within said City does not appear to the satisfaction of
the Board of Commissioners to be authorized or warranted; therefore, -
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF CO1MSSIOI'_:RS OF THE CITY OF
FADUCAH, =J TUCK' SECTION 1.
That commencing immediately after 12 o'clock midnight on September
30th, 1920, the fares that may be charged and collected for passage
upon any street car within the City of Paducah, and upon any electric
street car system operating under any Franchise granted by the City of
Paducah shall be as f ollov:-1s :

Cash Farefor Adults.. .. 6 Cents.
For children under 12 years of age and
over 5 years of age .................. Half Fares.
For children under 5 when accompanied by
any person who is over 5 years of age,Nothing.
SECTION 2.
Any person, firm or corporation operating any electric street
railway or car within the City of Paducah, or under any Franchise grant
ed by the City of Paducah, who shall charge or attem-et to collect any
greater rate of fares for transportation upon any such electric street
car than is provided in Section 1 hereof, shall be guilty of a viola-
tion of 6his Ordinance, and each such person, -firm or corporation so
violating said Ordinance shall be fined in any semi not less than '.Pen
(,10.00) Dollars, nor more than 'Twenty (5111-20.00) Dollars for each

violation thereof.

SECTIOD 3.
All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict here-::ith are,
to the extent of such conflict, hereby renealcd.
SECTION 4.
Tris 0-rdinance shall take. effect .from ?.nd after its passage, re-
cord and publication.
