FOR LIGHT', POI ER, HEAT APID ANY OTHER PURPOSES FOR ':IFICH ELECTRICITY IS USED
IN THE CITY OF PADUCAH, K1311TUCKY, AND PROVIDING FOR THE SALE OF SAID FRAN-
CHISE OR PRIVILEGE.
SECTION 1.
That there is hereby created and established a franchise to construct,
maintain and operate an electric light and poorer system within the City of
Paducah, together with all necessary or convenient plants, machinery, poles,
wires and other fixtures and appliances for generating, furnishing, carry-
ing, distributing and selling electricity for lighting, power, heating and
any other purposes for winich electricity is used within the City of Padu-
cah and in the County of 'sricCra.cken, i.entucky, and to that end. to erect,
construct, maintain, use "and extend in, on, along, over and across any
highway, street, alley or public ground within the City of Paducah, any
mires, cables, poles, towers, masts or other structures or appliances
necessary, useful or convenient for the purposes aforesaid.
SECTION 11.
That the within created franchise and privilege shall begin when the
purchaser thereof shall have complied with the requiT'cmcnts of this ordi-
nance and continue for a period of tienty years (20) thereafter,, and the
purchase of said franchise shall rest title in the purchaser thereof, its
successors or assigns for said period.
SECTION 111.
All poles erected under this franchise shall be smooth, wooden or iron
poles, and shall be located just inside the curb line on the sidewalks; and
.the purchaser, its successors or assigns,, shall place all streets, pavements
or other public places distM bed or dug up for the platin; of such poles in
as good and complete condition or manner as such streets and public places
were before such poles were placed thereon. And the said purchaser, its
successors or asci gns, shall at all times comply 1,rith any ordinance which
the general council may adopt, directing changes of wires or alteration in
ti,e location of the poles of the said purchaser or its successors or
assigns, and as the public good may require, wires shall be raised or
lowered or :placed underground when so ordered by the general council.
SECTION 1V.
Nothing in this ordinance shall operate or 'be construed as repealing

o.____.or in any way interferring vJith the rights or the City to free lights
by grants, and franchise now existing, or made before the passage of
this ordinance or the sale of the within franchise, and. -the purchaser

thereof shall•be required to furnish to the City of•Paduca.h, light and
power service to the ?.IL2hicip.l Building (City Hall) and. No. 1 Fire
Station, free of charge, during the continuance o: this franchise.
SECTION V.
The purchaser of the franchise created by this ordinance shall,
within thirty (30)days after the sale and purchase of same, ive to the
City of Paducah, in writing, notice of his or its or their acceptance'
of the provisions of this ordinance.
SECTION V1.
In the event the purchaser of this franchise and privilege, its
successors or assigns, shall not own or operate an electric plant in
the City of Paducah, Kentucky, sufficient to furnish fifteen hundred
(1500) Kilowtts of electrical energy fo-r electric lighting and power
service in said city, within one hundred and twenty (120) days from the'
date of approval of this franchise and privilege, then in such event
this franchise and privilege shall be null and void and of no effect.
SECTION V11.
All poles erected or wires strung thereon under the franchise in,
this ordinance shall be erected as required by the provisions of the
ordinance adopted April 16th, 1894, entitled "._n ordinance regulating
the stringing of •vrl-res and lighting of buildin_•s by electricity."
SECTION V111.
Any other person or company not in a similar line of business
may use the poles recited under this grant under such reasonable regula-
tions as the purchaser may require, but such person or company shall pay
to the owners of this franchise a reasonable compensation for the use
thereof, but the City of Paducah shall have the right to use said poles.

SECTION L_.
That for the faithful performance of the requirements by the
purchaser or purchasers of this franchise, he or they shall execute
bond to the City of Paducah in the sum of :.,500.00 to be approved by the;

SECTION X.
That in the event the purchaser or purchasers of this franchise
shall, or at any time prior to the date of its termination, or before
the expiration of twenty ,years from the date o£ same, sell, transfer
or convey their ownership of, or rights and privileges thereunder to
others for the unexpired time of same, the new o',•rners shall have all

SECTIOK Xll.
The City reserves the right to regulate the rates chargee! for ser-
vice under this franchise, bu-t such rates shall at all times wodiice a
sufficient revenue to my operating expenses, taxes, depreciation, obso-
lescence, and a reasonable re upon the value of the property.
SECTION Xlll.
That tne City of Paducah, Hentacky, reserves the richt to reject any
and all bids ofTererl for -this franchise.
SECTIO -11 XlV.
That this ordinance scall tal-ze effect trom and after its adoption,
ap-oroval and publication.
