AN ORDIIANCE AZiMINDING SUBSECTIONS 7, 8, 10 AND 11 OF SECTION 3
OF AN ORDINA1110E ENTITLED, "AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE APPOII?TI.ENT OR
RETENTION, BY THE BOARD OF COM1.1ISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, OF
CERTAIN CITY OFFICERS, AGENTS AND EISPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH,
IENTTUCKY, AND FLYING THEIR SALARIES, PO'IIERS AND DUTIES," PASSED BY THE
BOARD OF COTUAISSIONERS JANUARY 29, 1918.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of the City of
Paducah, Kentucky -
Sec. 1. That subsection 7 of section 3 of an ordinance entitled,
"An ordinance providing for the appointment or retention, by the Board of
Commissioners of the City of Paducah, of certain city officers, agents
and employees of the City of Paducah, Kentucky, and fixing their sales -
ries, pourers and. duties," passed by the Board of Commissioners January
29, 1918, be and the same is hereby amended by striking therefrom the
word -s and figures: "and shall receive a salary of Ninoty (yp90) Dollars, .
each, per month," and inserting in lieu thereof the follovdng: "and
who shall be paid, respectively, a salary of One Hundred- and Twenty-five
(5'125) Dollars a month for the day Captain and One Hundred (;;100)
Dollars a month for the night Captain," so that said subsection 7 when s,o
amended- shall read as folloi-.�s, to -wit;
"CAPTAINS OF POLICE- There shell be appointed by the Board
of Commissioners two Captains of Police, who shall be the
ranking officers in the Police Department next to the Chief
of Police, and- vino shall be paid, respectively, a salary of
One Hundred and Twenty-five (,'125) Dollars a month for the ''
day Captain ed One Hundred C, 100) Dollars a. month for the /1 `
night Captain, and shall perform such duties as ore required
of them by the Chief of Police or the Commissioner of Public
Safety."
Sec, 2. That subsection 8 of section 3 of said ordinance be,
and the same is hereby emended by striking out the words and figures:
,Seventy-five (,75) Dollars easch, per month," and inserting in lieu
thereof the folloti�jng; "Eighty (�80) Dollars each, per month," so that
said subsection 8 when so amended shall read as follo�,S, to -wit:
"PATROL DRIVLRS. There shall be appointed by the Board of
Commissioners two Patrol Drivers, with police powers, who
shall draw a salary of Eighty (,`8O) Dollars each, per month.
Such Patrol Drivers shall be assigned to their, duties, and
the hours fixed twrhen they shall be upon duty, by the Com-
missioner of Public Safety, who shall have the authority to
change such hours or such duties, from time to time, as he
q shall see fit;, and they shall perform such duties as may be
required of them, from time to time, by any ranking officer
or the Board of Commissioners."
Sec. 3. That subsection 10 of section 3 of said ordinance be,
and the same is hereby amended by striking therefrom the words and figures;
"Nine Hundred and Sixty (,,)'960) Dollars per year," and inserting in lieu
thereof, the following: "One Thousand and Twonty (5?1020) Dollars per
year," so that said subsection when so amended shall read as follows,

"CITY J-IILER. The Board of Commissioners -shall appoint a
City Jailer, who shall perform sucim duties as are non re-
quired of him by laws e the State of Kentucky or ordinances
of the City of Paducah, and such other duties as nay be
required of him, from time to time, by the Commissioner of
Public Safety, or the Chief of Police and who shall receive
a salary of One Thousand and Twenty (1020) Dollars per year."
Sec. 4. That subsection 11 of section 3 of said ordinance be,
and the same is hereby amended by striking therefrom the wards and-
figures:
ndfigures: "twenty-six (26) Patrolmen, who shall receive a salary of
Eighty (,,ip'80) Dollars, each, per month," and inserting in lieu thereof
the following: "twenty-tvio (22) Patrolmen, who shall receive a salary of
Eighty-five (,85) Dollars, each, per month," so that said subsection 11
when so amended shall read as follows, to -frit:
"PATROLIZMT. There shall be appointed by the Board of
Commissioners twenty -t1110 (22) Patrolmen, who shall receive a
Salary of Eighty-five (I.85)Dollars, each, per month. It shall
be the duty of said Patrolmen to act as police officers of the
¢ity of Paducah, and in that respect to Perform -such duties in
connection tirith the Police Department as may be assigned to
them, from time to time, by any of their ranking officers, and
to be on duty during such hours as may be hereafter established
by the Commissioner of Public Safety --and the Commissioner of
Public Safety shall have the authority to change such hours or
such duties, from time to time, as he may see fit.
if He shall further have the authority to create the office
of Lieutenant of Police and Sergeant of Police, and such other
subordinate offices of the police force as he may see fit, and
assign any of the said patrolmen to the performance of the duty
of Sergeant or Lieutenant, or to other subordinate offices as
may be created, which may be, Prescribed- by him,
" He shall further have the authority to assign as many of
said patrolmen to plain -clothes duty as he may see fit, from
time to time.
It Said Commissioner of Public Safety shall further have the
authority to reduce in -rank any of the officers of the Police
or Fire Department of the city; provided, however, that his
action in reducing any of said officers in rank shall be
reported to the Board of Commissioners, for -their concurrence
or rejection, at the next regular meeting thereof.
IT The Commissioner of Public Safety shall further have the
authority to prescribe, from time to time, the character and
design of uniform to be torn by the uniform menof
saidce eDepart-
menta, and require each member of said Fire or
who are placed in uniform, to wear the character and design of
uniform adopted by him. He shall further have the po%�nr to
adopt such rules and regulations, and make such orders, from
time to time, in the general mma'iagement and government of the
Police and Fire Department, and to prescaibe the penalties Or
punishment" to be imposed for disobedience of said ordors, rules
or -regulations."
Sec. 5. All ordinances or parts of ordinances that conflict
herewith, in so far as same conflict with this ordinance, are hereby
re_oealed.
Sec. 6. This ordin^.nce shall take effect and be in force from
