AN ORDINANCE AMENDING OR,�NANCE NO. 866, ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE PRO-
VIDING FOR THE ELECTION OF A BOARD OF HEALTH FOR THE CITY OF PADUCAH
AND REGULATING THE SAME, AND PRESCRIBING IT POWERS AND DUTIES; WITH
:;ALARIES FIXED UNDER THE AMENDMENT. -

Be it ordained by th common council of the city of Paducah, -
400. 1,- That ordinance No. 866 entitled an ordinance pr,)viding for
the election of a board of health for the city of Paducah and regulating
same, and prescribing its powers and duties, be and the same is hereby
amended by striking out of section a,- thereof the words,-" to employ
any person or persons to perform any sanitary duty and",- Uausing said
section to read r amended as folow
as towit;

The aforesaid board of health shall organize within ten days after its
election, or as soon thereafter as convenient and shall have the same
power within the city of Paducah, as local boards for counties are in-
vested with under #M chapter 63 of the Kentueky..Statutes.
It is further ordained that said board of health shall have or exercise
the power to appoint a competent physician, who shall be the Health
officer of the city,and shall hold his office for two years and until
his successor shall be duly appointed and qualified, and said board of
health shall have power to fill any vacancy that may occur in th office
,ef Health Officer, -of the city. -
Sec. 2,- That section 5,- of said ordinace No. 866 be and the same is
hereby amended_by striking out of said section the following towit:--
"The board of health may employ such persona as they shall deem proper
and right, and report to the council for its ratification or refection;
that such reports shall be made before the employment of such help, and
the council In all cases reserves the right to fix the compensation
of all employed"- and adding inlleu thereof the following towit:--
The,common council shall•en petition of.the board of health, or whenever
It may deem same advisable, elect one or more persona as sanitary officers,

who shall held their offices at the pleasure of said common council.
Such officers shall be paid a salary,monthly out of the city treasury,
of $-7 ---dollars per month for their services.
It shall be the duty of said sanitary officers to patrol the city
during the day time, and look after its sanitary condition;-- thor bh.at -
-be clothed with police authority by the mayor, and shall see that the
sanitary laws and ordinances of the city are enforced, together with
such regulations as may be adopted by the board of health; they shall
be under the direction, orders and control of the mayor,amd gewerage
and Sanitary Committee of the common council, and shall report to the
mayor once each day.-
See.- 3,- That all ordinances and parts thereof in conflict with the
provisions of this ordinance, -to the extent of such conflicting, -
are hereby repealed and this ordinance shall take effect from,nnd ,
after its passage and approval.- i
