HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Book 24, Page 55, July 17, 1959No 55 Proceedings of Board of Commissioners City of Paducah July 1 i., 105.9 6" water main ul Vasseur, Hobson etc 'dater connection Theobald Lane C Robert C Cherry 'dater connect Hinkleville R E.H.Poat, Sr. At a Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners held in the Commission Chamber of the City Hall, Paducah, Kentucky, at 7:30 P.M. on July 17, 1959, Mayor Jacobs preside and upon call of the Roll the following answered to their names: Commissioners Fairhurst Fendley, Gholson, Hook and Mayor Jacobs (5). Mayor Jacobs offered motion that the reading of the Minutes for June 23 and July 13, 1959 be waived and that the Minutes of said meeting as prepared by the City Clerk be approved as written. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Fairhurst, Fendley, Gholson, Hook and Mayor Jacobs (5). Commissioner Fairhurst offered the following motion: Victor L. Taber and Caskey Pontiac Company, Inc., desire an agreement with Paducah plater Works that approximately 1,$19 feet of 6 inch main along Vasseur Avenue, Hobson Avenue, and an un -named street and the Beltline be laid for the purpose of serving property owned by them including the providing of fire protection therefor. Said applicants have agreed to pay to Paducah Water Works the sum of Four Thousand Two Hundred and no/100 (?4,200.00) Dollars as a contribution toward the construction of said main and the Board of Commissioners of Paducah hater 'dorks has determined that it would be to the best interest of the water distribution system of the dater Works to construct said 6 inch cast iron main in the manner contemplated by said agreement and said Commissioners of Water !Yorks have further determined that it would be to the best interest of the water distribution system to con- struct 1,659 feet of such extension with 8 inch main. I move that the agreement between Paducah Water Works as party of the first part and Caskey Pontiac Company, Inc., and Victor L. Taber as parties of the second part, dated the 9th day of July, 1959, a copy of which is filed herewith be approved. I further move that the adoption of this resolution and the approval of said agreement be considered as an agreement on the part of the City of Paducah to pay the fire hydrant and water main rental, as provided in the franchise, on the pipe line referred to in the petition and in this motion and in this motion, said rental to begin when said water main and fire hydrant have been installed and placed in service. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Fairhurst, Fendley, Gholson, Hook and Mayor Jacobs (5). Commissioner Fendley offered motion that the petition of Robert C. Cherry and wife, Lynn M. Cherry, for permission to make a one inch connection to the existing 2 -incl privately owned water pipe line located on Theobald Lane for the purpose of furnishing water to property and buildings used in connection with their greenhouse and florist business located and fronting 965.2 feet on the north side of Theobald Lane in McCracken County, Kentucky, and outside the corporate limits of the City of Paducah, Kentucky, be received and filed and that the request petitioned for therein be granted subject to the terms and conditions in said petition. Commissioner Gholson offered motion that the petition pf Edmund Henry Poat, Sr., and his wife, Maggie E. Estel Tucker, Commissioner Fairhurst offered motion that Estel Tucker, an employee appointed t Foreman Public Works Department, be employed as Foreman in said Department, effective J 1959, such employment being under Civil Service. Warren Morris Commissioner Fairhurst offered motion that warren Pdorris an employee advanced to 'i; Equipment 1,/ Public works Department be employed as Equipment Operator in the said departmen Operator effective July 16, 1959, such employment being under Civil Service. Invest Sink/ Commissioner Fairhurst offered the following motion: I move that the letter ing fund , money of July 14th, 1959 from William L. Rutter,City Treasurer, to the City Tanager, re- questing permission to withdraw 1102,010.00 of the General Sinking Fund Account money now on savings account in the Paducah Bank, and using it with an additional ;,60,000.00 from the Sinking Fund Cash Account to invest in ',)170,000.00 United States Treasury Bonds maturing November 15, 1961, bearing approximately 41% interest, be received and filed; and I further move that he be, and he is hereby, directed and authorized to make such withdrawal and investment on behalf of the General Sinking Fund Account. Dixon, laborer in the Dixon Promoted to I Refuse Division of the Department of Public Works be promoted to Truck Driver effectiv, Truck Drive July 16, 1959, such appointment and promotion not being under Civil Service. Stewart, as R. Stewart -City Auditor City Auditor, 'effective July 15, 1959, be received, filed and accepted. Louise Bell /I Commissioner Fendley offered motion that Louise Bell, an employee of the City Acting Auditor Finance Department, be authorized to act as'Acting Auditor effective July 16, 1959, until further action of this Board. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Accept bid Roman Catholic Diocese Riverside Hosp. July 16, 1959, said promotion being under Civil Service. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Fairhurst, Fendley, Gholson, Hook and Mayor Jacobs (5). / Commissioner Gholson offered motion that the bid of The Roman Catholic Diocese of Owensboro, Kentucky, an unincorporated association, in the sum of x503,251.00 for the purchase of Riverside Hospital property, heretofore received and filed on June 9, 1959, be accepted, and that the Corporation Counsel be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to prepare an ordinance accepting such bid and authorizing the sale thereof and any other instruments necessary for such sale. Brooks 'Jilliams Commissioner Fendley offered motion that Brooks Williams, a fireman in the Fire Eng. Fire Dept Department, be promoted to the rank of Engineer in said Department, effective July 16, 1959. Daniel Keeutzer Commissioner Fendley offered motion that Daniel Kreutzer, an Engineer in the Fire Lieut. -Fire Dept Department be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in said Department effective July 16, 1959. I Proceedings of Board of Commissioners City of Paducah July 14, 1959 Charges agairy�st / Commissioner Hook offered motion that the charges preferred by Rulie Elliott, Johnny Herbe ✓ Chief of Police of the City of Paducah, Kentucky against the defendant, Johnny Herbert, a police officer of said City for the reprimanding, suspension or removal of the defen - � ant from his position as such police officer be received and filed; that a hearing on said charges be held on July 17th, 1959 at the hour of 4:00 o'clock P.M. in the Comm- ission Chamber at the City Hall, Paducah, Kentucky after notice of said charges have been served upon the defendant at least two days before such hearing. Exonerations Commissioner Hook offered motion that exonerations prepabed and delivered by 1 thru 237 the City Treasurer, being ill through 7;237 inclusive, be received and .filed, and that the amounts of same totaling ng •j5,314.67 be exonerated on the tax bills shown and de- signated by said exonerations.
