HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes Book 22, Page 652, October 6, 1953No. 652 Proceedings of __ Goard of Commissioners City of Paducah October 6, 1953 At a Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners held in the Commission Chamber of the City Hall, Paducah, Kentucky at 7:30 P.M. on October 6, 1953, Mayor Cherry pre- sided and upon call of the Roll the following answered to their names: Commissioners Clark, Jacobs, Johnston, Morrow and Mayor Cherry (5). Mayor Cherry offered motion that the reading of the Minutes .for September 22 & September 29, 1953 be waived and that the Minutes of said meeting as prepared by the City Clerk be approved as written. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Clark, Jacobs, Johnston, Morrow and Mayor Cherry (5). Petition for Commissioner Clark offered motion that the Board of Commissioners receive and file Street light 29th & J the petition signed by Vernice H. Turner and others, requesting a street light- at the Goodman intersection of 29th and Goodman Avenue. He further moved that the City Manager have an investigation made to determine the need for a light at this intersection, and if same is needed that he instruct. the Kentucky Utilities Company to make such installation. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Clark, Jacobs, Johnston, Morrow and Mayor Cherry (5). Petition Commissioner Johnston offered motion that a petition signed by Vernica H. Turner improve 2900 block and others, requesting necessary improvements to the street in the 2900 block of Goodman Goodman Avenue, such as ditching on both sides of street, sewer across street at the inter- sectibn of 29th and Goodman Avenue, etc., be received and filed and referred to the superintendent of streets for investigation and report. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Clark, Jacobs, Johnston, Morrow and Mayor Cherry (5). Petition Commissioner Morrow offered motion that a petition signed by Georgia Howald and Grade & pave Division St others living on or near Division Street, which runs from Old Mayfield Road to Fairmont Street, requesting that Division Street be graded and paved, be received and filed and referred to the Superintendent of streets for investigation and report as soon as possible. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Clark, Jacobs, Johnston, Petition Morrow and ;payor Cherry (5). Alley opened 'Mayor Cherry offered motion that the petition signed by Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Dowd North 25th ✓ & 26th Sts and others living within the 800 and 900 blocks of North 25th and 26th Streets for the opening of an alley way within said block and between said streets be received and filed and referred to the Superintendent of Streets for investigation and report as soon as possible. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Clark, Jacobs, Johnston, Morrow and Mayor Cherry (5). Cemetery lot Cozvissioner Clark offered motion that the Board of Commissioners approve the sal Oak Grove to Irmo to Irene Jennings of the south one-half of Lot No. 1 in Block 2 of the Mausoleum Addition Jennings I to Oak Grove Cemetery for the sum of ;;160.00, said lot fronting 10 feet on Yopp Avenue I and extending back for depth a distance of 19 feet. He further moved that the City Clerk, be directed to execute a deed of conveyance to said Cemetery Lot. October 6, 1� Commissioner Clark offered motion that the Bill of Alvord, Burdick & Howson aexr brill of Alvord, in the sum of $1,000.00 for services in connection with the investigation outlining the Burdick & ' Howson construction required, etc. and making estimate of the cost of constructing facilities filed necessary for utilization of TVA power by the city of Paducah, be received and filed. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Clark, Jacobs, Johnston, Morrow and Mayor Cherry (5). Refund Bldg. Commissioner Clark offered motion that this Board receive and file the letter permit to Noble i' from Oscar K. Talmage, City Treasurer, regarding refund of building permit to Mr. Noble Freeman Freeman. Since it appears that the permit was not used, he further moved that the amount of $$4.00 be refunded to Mr. Freeman. Commissioner Jacobs offered motion that the plans and specifications pre.:- re-New NewFire Station ✓ pared by Lee Potter Smith, architect, for the construction of West End Fire Station on ! approved I Jackson Street in Paducah, Kentucky, be received and approved. Adopted on call of thel I Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Clark, Jacobs, Johnston, Morrow and Mayor Cherry (5). Street light Commissioner Jacobs offered motion that the report of the Police Department at Lincoln / & Harding Sts concerning the location of a street light at the intersection of Harding and Roosevelt Streets be received and filed and that the City Manager be authorized to direct the Kentucky Utilities Company to install a street light at the intersection of Lincoln and Harding Streets as recommended by the Police Department. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Clark, Jacobs, Johnston, Morrow and Mayor Cherry (5). Rushing Add Commissioner Jacobs offered motion that the Board of Commissioners approve Oak Grove v Grave to the sale by the City of Paducah to Eulah Perkins of Grave No. 134 in Block No. 8 of the Eulah Perkins Rushing Addition to Oak Grove Cemetery, and that the City Clerk be authorized to execute, a deed of conveyance to said cemetery grave. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Clark, Jacobs, Johnston, Morrow and Mayor Cherry (5). Approve payment Commissioner Jacobs offered motion that the statement from Thomas J. Nolan Presley Plb Cc (Hospital) j� & Sons in the amount of $15,776.00 for services rendered by Presley Plumbing & Heating Company, also the letter from the Paducah Municipal Hospital Commission by its Chairman, approving the payment of said account, be received and filed, and that payment thereof be approved and the City Treasurer be directed to pay same from funds in the Riverside Hospital Building Account. Cemetery Grave Cormissioner Johnston offered motion that the Board of Commissioners approve to Hassie Pryor the sale by the City of Paducah to Hassie Pryor of Grave No. 133 in Block No. 8 of the Rushing Addition to Oak Grove Cemetery, and that the City Clerk be authorized to execute a deed of conveyance to said cemetery grave. Adopted on call of the Roll, Yeas, Commissioners Clark, Jacobs, Johnston, Morrow and Mayor Cherry (5). Giem & Associates, also the letter from the Paducah Municipal Houpital Commission by its Chairman, approv- ing the paynent of said account, be received and filed, and that payment thereof be a'p'proved and the City Treasurer be directed to pay same from funds in the Riverside Hospital Building Account. I further move that all of said bids be rejected except those for Units A. C. D. and E and that the Cit Manager readvertise for the taking of bids on the remaining units.
