HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-06-2020PADUCAH HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION rEB -4 ZUZO CITY CLERK Minutes - January 6, 2020 Meeting Called to Order: 5pm by Commissioner Robert Shy Roll Call: present - Commissioners Robert Shy, Kenneth Hurt Sr., Dann Patterson, and Student Interns Kate Criner, Rachel Hwang, Samuel Lambert, Andrew Katz, Hogan Fox, and Jackson Mundy Excused were: Chair Shirley Thompson, Commissioner Eve Silverstein, and Intern Elijah Patrick. Establish a Quorum: 5:01pm Invocation: Commissioner Robert Shy Pledge of Allegiance: led by Student Intern Andrew Katz Acknowledge Visitors/Guest (limited to 3 minutes per visitor, unless guest speaker): City Manager Jim Arndt attended December 2, 2019, minutes were reviewed - MOTION by Commissioner Dann Patterson to approve as written; second by commissioner Kenneth Hurt, Sr.; unanimous approval. OLD BUSINESS The student interns gave a report on the youth event: Title: PaDOcah - Place: Carson Center- Date: Saturday, February 22, from 2pm to 4pm - Student Intern Andrew Katz has all tables and chairs taken care of and their arrangements. Each business or organization will have a table and they will provide their own table display and set-up. They will be serving refreshments - tea, lemonade, water, cookies chips, etc.; which will take about $50. The interns want to keep the entertainment student oriented. They are looking into a DJ (Joe Reeves), Tilghman Band and a cappella group to sing. The banner will get ordered from Minuteman Press Printing. The interns are talking to their vendors. Commissioner Robert Shy stated they must have everything confirmed and ready to go by the February 3rd PH RC meeting and they need to advertise the event everywhere. Commissioner Robert Shy made a MOTION for the interns to use up to $750 for food and entertainment; second by Commissioner Kenneth Hurt, Sr.; unanimous approval. Kentucky Statues was tabled again, because Chair Thompson was not present. Commissioner Kenneth Hurt will call KHRC again on the training they offer for Human Rights Commissioners. The sponsorship for AKA and McNabb Elementary School was discussed by email after the December 2, 2019, meeting; and it was conveyed to AKA the PHRC would not sponsor. The commission did not vote on the matter and everything needs to be voted on by the commission from now on. NEW BUSINESS The budget variance report was reviewed — MOTION to except as printed by commissioner Kenneth Hut, Sr.; second by Commissioner Dann Patterson; unanimous approval. The Martin Luther King Jr. Luncheon on Monday, January 20, at 11:30am was discussed and no one was going to attend, so the PHRC decided there would be no tickets paid for from the Human Rights budget. Three letters for donations from the non-profit organizations: Oscar Cross Boys and Girls Club; River City Mission, and Merryman House; were discussed, but there is no money in the budget for donations. The letters will be reviewed again at the June 1st meeting to see where the budget stands, and if a donation can be made. Commissioner Kenneth Hurt Sr., made a MOTION to adjourn the PHRC meeting at 5:38pm; second by Commissioner Dann Patterson, with unanimous approval. Meeting Adjourned.
