A MUNICIPAL ORDER AUTHORIZING TOMMY THOMPSON TO APPLY
FOR A STATE HISTORIC MARKER FOR THE NOBLE PARK AMPHITHEATRE TO
HONOR MR. WALTER "DUB" BEASLEY AND AUTHORIZING AN EXPENDITURE UP
TO $1,500.00 FOR THE MANUFACTURING AND INSTALLATION COSTS FOR THE
HISTORIC MARKER
WHEREAS, the historical significance of the Noble Park Amphitheater is
twofold: the history of the amphitheater itself and the history of the Ionic columns incorporated
into the backdrop of the renovation; and
WHEREAS, for over 80 years, the amphitheater has been the source of pleasure
for the area, hosting concerts, movies, church meetings and other event; and
WHEREAS, the columns incorporated into the new amphitheater backdrop were
part of the facade of the old Immanuel Baptist Church Building from its construction in 1921
until its demolition in 1983; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Walter (Dub) Beasley, owner of Beasley Monument Company,
worked from 1983 until 2003 to preserve the columns and to have them incorporated into a
design of historical significance; and
WHEREAS, in 2003, Mr. Beasley arranged for the city of Paducah to purchase
the columns to incorporate them into the new amphitheater backdrop design; and
WHEREAS, the City of Paducah now wishes to honor Walter "Dub" Beasley for
his contributions by applying for a State Historic Marker for the Noble Park Amphitheatre.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDERED BY THE BOARD OF
COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1. The City of Paducah hereby authorizes Tommy Thompson to apply
for a State Historic Marker for the Noble Park Amphitheatre to honor Mr. Walter "Dub"
Beasley. Further, the City of Paducah hereby authorizes an expenditure of up to $1,500 for the
manufacturing and installation costs for the historic marker. This expenditure shall be charged to
Account Number 10002401 533050.
SECTION 2. This order shall be in full force and effect from and after the date of
its adoption.
