11TY CLERK
PADUCAH HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION
Minutes -- July 1, 2019
Commissioners Kenneth Hurt Sr. and Robert Shy
were present.
Chair Shirley Thompson, Commissioners Eve
Silverstein, and Dann Patterson were unable to
attend.
There was no Quorum, so only an open discussion
could be conducted.
Assistant City Manager, Michelle Smolen was also
present.
Complainant Joe Patterson was present to discuss
his complaint. Mr Patterson approved to talk in
front of the Assistant City Manager, Michelle
Smolen.
Chair Thompson had spoken to the HR
representative (where Mr. Patterson worked)
which stated Joe Patterson was fired due to a
verbal altercation on the assembly line floor with
E
the plant manager over some instructions he was
given. Mr. Patterson said this was not true, but all
the Mexicans stick together and say the same
thing even when it is not the truth. The company
requires more of the African Americans than they
do the Mexicans.
Commissioners Shy and Hurt explained everything
to Mr. Patterson, even his appeal on his
unemployment, and advised him to call the
Department of Labor and the U. S. Immigration
Customs Enforcement. The office gave him the
phone numbers.
Commissioner Robert shy gave Mr. Patterson two
places that were hiring and would help him get a
job, because he was losing everything.
The meeting dismissed at 6pm.
