ORDINANCE NO. 77-8-1456
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 25-1 "NUMBER, RANK AND SALARIES
OF MEMBERS OF DEPARTMENT" OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF
PADUCAH, KENTUCKY
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF
PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1. That Section 25-1 "Number, rank and salaries of members
of department", of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Paducah, Kentucky, be
amended and reordained so that said section as amended and reordained shall here-
after read as follows:
"Sec. 25-1. Number, rank and salaries of members of department.
(a) The number and rank of members of the police department of the
City of Paducah and their monthly salaries, provided said salaries are not changed
by any annual apportionment ordinance hereafter adopted shall be as follows:

(b) The assistant chief of police shall be paid at the following listed rates
upon satisfactory completion of consecutive years of service with the City of
Paducah:

Pay rate increase at this level can be made only upon certification
by the Chief of Police that a patrolman performs all routine
duties in a satisfactory
manner, and after approval of the City Manager.

(f) A captain who is regularly assigned as a shift commander or officer
in charge of a division .by the Chief of the Paducah Police,, Department,. after approval
by the City Manager, shall, for such assignment. receive . additional compensation in an
amount not to ..exceed $75.00 per month. Such designation shall not constitute a pro-
motion -in rank and such designation and the accompanying supplement shall cease
upon, reassignment.. Any, such action under this subsection shall be initiated by
the Chief of . the Paducah Police Department and approved by the City Manager.
(g) A sergeant who is regularly assigned as an assistant shift
commander or officer in charge . of a division by the chief of the Paducah Police
Department, after,,approval by the City Manage
r., shall for ,.such. assignment receive
additional compensation in an amount not to exceed $50.00 per month. Such . .
designation shall not constitute .a promotion in rank and .such designation and the
accompanying supplement shall cease upon reassignment. _. ,Any, such action under this
subsection shall be initiated by the Chief of the Paducah Police Department and
approved by the City Manager.
(h) Upon the recommendation of his shift commander or captain in
charge of a division and the department executive officer, and the certification of
the Chief of the Paducah Police Department, that, a, patrolman, possesses quali-
fications and has achieved ,standards of performance established within the depart-
ment, after approval by the City Manager, a patrolman may be designated a "First
Class Patrolman" after successfully completing a minimum of five (5) years of
service with the department, and may be designated a "Senior Patrolman" after
successfully completing a minimum of eight (8) years of service with the depart-
ment. A First Class Patrolman shall receive additional compensation to be desig-
nated as a performance incentive supplement in an amount not to exceed $25.00
per month. A Senior Patrolman shall receive additional compensation to be
designated as a performance incentive supplement in an amount not to exceed $50.00
per month. Designation as a First Class Patrolman or Senior Patrolman shall not
constitute a promotion in rank and such designation and the accompanying per-
formance incentive supplement shall cease upon failure by a patrolman to maintain
the level of qualifications and standards of performance for which he was originally
certified to possess. Any such action under this subsection shall be initiated by
the Chief of the Paducah Police Department and approved by the City Manager.
(i) A patrolman who is regularly assigned to investigative or specialized
duties by the Chief of the Paducah Police Department and with the approval of the
City Manager, shall, after the first month of such assignment receive additional
compensation in an amount not to exceed $3.00 per day for each day so worked,
for a maximum of $60.00 per month.

(j) All members of the department shall receive an initial clothing
allowance of $200.00 and in the event such member shall fail to serve in the
department for more than seventy-five (75) days all clothing purchased with the
initial clothing allowance shall be returned to the department. The department
shall furnish all leather items of equipment, except shoes, which items shall
remain the property of the department and shall be returned to the department
upon the departure of a member from the department for any reason other than
retirement" .
SECTION 2. This ordinance amends Section 1 of an ordinance originally
enacted on August 5, 1952, and which was last amended by Ordinance No. 77-7-
1438.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect and
retroactive to July 4, 197T.
