ORDINANCE NO. 76-2-1231
AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY ENGINEER
TO MAKE APPLICATION FOR PARTICIPATION IN A STATE AND FEDERALLY FUNDED
PROJECT FOR UPGRADING SIGN DEFICIENCIES ON LOCAL STREETS , AND DESIGNA-
TING HIM AS THE AUTHORIZED OFFICIAL AND LOCAL PROJECT OFFICER FOR ALL
AGREEMENTS , REPORTS , AND REQUISITIONS RELATING TO THE PROJECT
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF
PADUCAH , KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1. That the City Engineer be , and he is hereby authorized and
directed to make an application for participation in a state and federally funded project
for upgrading sign deficiencies on local streets through the Commonwealth of Kentucky,
Department of Transportation, Office of Highway Safety Programs.
SECTION 2. The City Engineer is further authorized and directed to execute
a standard form of agreement for participation in said project, with the Commonwealth
of Kentucky, Department of Transportation, upon approval of the application, said con-
tract to provide that the City of Paducah will remove , replace or install all regulatory
and warning signs necessary to comply with the national standards; that the City will
conduct an inventory of in-place signs and make a survey of needed additional signs;
that the Commonwealth of Kentucky will furnish all necessary signs, and the City of
Paducah will install, remove or replace such signs within its jurisdiction within six (6)
months after delivery of the sign material; that the City of Paducah will permit the
upgrading and removal of all non-standard traffic control devices on state-maintained
streets, and that the City of Paducah shall thereafter maintain all such sign installations
in satisfactory condition .
SECTION 3. The City Engineer is further authorized and directed to act
as Project Director for the program and shall coordinate and direct the program , and
comply with all guidelines and requirements of the said Department of Transportation .
The City Engineer shall be assisted in the inventory and installation of all signs by the
Paducah Police Department and the Maintenance Department . The City Manager and the
Director of Public Safety are further authorized and directed to assign such personnel
as may be necessary for preparing the need survey and inventory, and for providing for
the removal , replacement or installation of all required signs .
