AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE FINANCE DIRECTOR TO PAY FOR
THE SOLE SOURCE PURCHASE OF A REMOTEC F6A ROBOT, RAFT AND TOW
SYSTEMS TO BE USED BY THE PADUCAH BOMB SQUAD
WHEREAS, the Paducah Police Department Bomb Squad currently has a
Remotec robot that has been used extensively over the past several years to handle explosive
devices, and assists the SWAT Team in various situations; and
WHEREAS, the Police Department has received a Homeland Security Grant of
nearly $232,000 for the purchase of new equipment; and
WHEREAS, the Bomb Squad wishes to purchase another robot along with tools
to enhance the current robot; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary for the current robot and the new robot to be
compatible, the purchase will need to be from the same vendor, Northrop Grumman, Remotec
Inc.; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Sec. 2-659 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of
Paducah, Kentucky, the City Manager has made a written determination that as a result that both
new robot has to be purchased from the same vendor as the current one this purchase will be sole
source.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1. That the City of Paducah hereby authorizes the Finance Director to
make payment to Northrop Grumman, Remotec Inc., in the amount of $188,445.00, for purchase
of a F6A robot and two tools (RAFT and Tow systems) for the current bomb robot used by the
Paducah Bomb Squad.
SECTION 2. This expenditure will be paid using funds received from a Kentucky
Homeland Security Grant and shall be charged to Homeland Security Grant Project account
P0005 1.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall be read on two separate days and will become
effective upon summary publication pursuant to KRS Chapter 424.
