HomeMy WebLinkAbout83-5-2385Box ORDINANCE NO. 83-5-2385 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 17-106 AND 17-88J, INSURANCE AGENTS OR INSURANCE SOLICITORS, TO THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY WHEREAS, by Ordinance No. 83-5-2380, Section 17-88.5 was created to the Code of Ordinances of the City of Paducah, Kentucky, and WHEREAS, said ordinance needs clarification; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY, AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That Section, Section 17-88.5 is hereby amended to read as follows: "Any person engaging in the business as an insurance agent or insurance solicitor, shall pay an annual license tax under schedule E of section 17-57, provided however, the minimum license tax for any such person shall be,Seventy-five Dollars ($75.00), and further . provided as follows: "Gross receipts shall mean net commissions received by said insurance agent or insurance solicitor. a. Net commissions shall not include any monies collected and forwarded to the insurance companies by said agents or solicitors, except as such money represents actual commissions earned by said insurance agents or insurance solicitors. b. 6e. Net commissions shall not include commissions paid to another insurance agent or insurance solicitor who possesses a valid busi- ness license. C. Net commissions shall not include commissions earned on risks located wheteepea outside the City of Paducah or upon lives of persons residing outside the corporate limits of the city of Paducah". SECTION 2. That Section 17-106 of Chapter 17, Licenses, of the Code of Ordinances be, and it is hereby, amended and reordained so that said Section shall hereafter read as follows: "Section 17-106. Professions. Any individual practicing any of the following professions or engaging in any of the following businesses or callings shall pay an annual license tax under Schedule E of section 17-57: Accountant, architect, attorney-at-law, chiropractor, chiropodist, chiro- surgeon, civil engineer, dentist, detective, electrical engineer, exodontist, �— agent;---------- insurance adjuster, magnetic healer, masseur, oculist, optician, optometrist, osteopath, pension agent, peridontist, physician, practical chemist, surgeon, surveyor, title guarantor, title abstractor, veterinarian, or any other profession or calling for which a certificate or license is required before a person can enter such a profession or calling. The minimum license tax of each such individual shall be seventy- five ($75.00) Dollars, and a firm composed of two (2) or more individuals shall be given credit against its license tax based on gross receipts for the combined minimum license taxes paid by its members". SECTION 3. Insurance agents and insurance solicitors are hereby granted an exten- sion of time to and including May 31, 1983 to secure their 1983 business license. 604 SECTION 4. In order to expedite the collecting of 1983 business license an emergency is declared to exist and this ordinance shall be in force upon its passage at one reading, according to law. JOHN K.
