ORDINANCE NO. 82-4-2234
AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO CONTRACT WITH THE
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, COMMONWEALTH OF KENTUCKY, TO PARTICIPATE IN THE
SELECTIVE TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT PROGRAM (STEP)
WHEREAS, Paducah is the largest city in the Western section of
Kentucky, and
WHEREAS, Paducah serves as the shopping, commercial and medical
center for much of Southern Illinois, Southeast Missouri and Northwestern
Tennessee, and
WHEREAS, Paducah is the gateway to Kentucky Lake, Barkley Lake and
the Land Between the Lakes Recreational Centers, and
WHEREAS; Paducah interconnects with I-24', U. -S. Highways 45, 60, 62
and 68, moving traffic in all directions, and
WHEREAS, the above have compounded all traffic problems and
accidents in this area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF PADUCAH, KENTUCKY:
SECTION 1. That the Mayor be authorized to enter into a contract
with the Department of Transportation, Commonwealth of Kentucky, to
participate in the STEP Program (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) a
copy of said STEP program is attached hereto and incorporated herein as if
set out in full therein.
SECTION 2. The Chief of Police is hereby designated as'Project
Director, and is hereby authorized to sign any and all documents on behalf of
the Police Department as Project Director.
SECTION 3. Total cost of the STEP program will -be $69,169.88, to
be paid entirely by the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Department of
Transportation, Office of Highway Safety Programs.
SECTION 4. This ordinance shall be read on two separate days and
will be effective upon publication of title and a certified summary thereof.
